Brie de Meaux has been appreciated since the Middle Ages and was crowned best European cheese in the 19th century.
Its proximity to Paris, with its large number of cheese consumers, only enhanced its reputation with successive courts.
The separation between the place where the cheese is raised and the place where it is made is a specifically Briard tradition. It was awarded PDO status in 1980.
The deliciously fluffy, white, bloomy rind exudes a distinctly local flavor. Its smooth, pale-yellow paste has a nutty flavor that develops as it matures.
Brie de Meaux goes very well with a glass of Champagne.
